Nvidia has cancelled its GTC Keynote – It will be replaced with news announcements

Nvidia has announced that this year’s GTC won’t have a keynote, downgrading the event once again. Earlier this month, Nvidia had cancelled the in-person portions of GTC 2020, opting instead to create an online-only event to mitigate the impact of the global coronavirus outbreak.

Previously, Nvidia promised a livestreamed GTC 2020 keynote, but this is no longer the case. Now, Nvidia plans to deliver news announcements for what has been scheduled for the keynote, which will be followed by an investor call.

Nvidia still has plans to host the other online portions of its GTC 2020 event, but at this time it is unknown why Nvidia has decided to cancel their keynote. It is worth noting that AMD has revealed its planned RDNA 2 gaming architecture and CDNA compute architectures, both of which promise large improvements to AMD’s performance/watt characteristics. Given the cancellation of Nvidia’s keynote, it seems likely that the company isn’t ready to reveal its next-generation products.

On March 24th, Nvidia will make its GTC 2020 news announcements. One has to wonder if Nvidia’s lack of a keynote is any indication of the scale of these announcements. Is Nvidia ready to reveal its answer to RDNA 2?
