Not all GPUs are designed for gaming, that is a simple fact of life, be it for basic visual processing and media work on basic PCs, phones and tablets or in servers, self-driving cars or in workstations.

For the most part, integrated graphics solutions will be enough for the low-end of the market, though users of some GPU-accelerated products like Premiere Pro and Photoshop could benefit from a stronger GPU, presenting the need for a GPU that bridges the gap between modern dedicated gaming or workstation GPUs and standard integrated graphics solutions.
Nvidia has now introduced their new Geforce MX150 mobile GPU, which is designed to replace the companies ageing Maxwell-based 940MX, with Nvidia stating that this new GPU offers 3x their performance/watt of their older GPU offering.

This new GPU will easily outperform Intel’s integrated graphics solutions, allowing MX150 users to easily use their notebooks for productivity tasks and even tackle light gaming scenarios.

The MX150 will come with a total of 384 CUDA cores and an undisclosed amount of GDDR5 memory, offering similar specifications to Nvidia’s GT 1030 desktop GPU. This GPU is likely to be clocked to lower speeds than its desktop counterpart to maintain a low TDP, thought the GT 1030 was already consuming less than 30W of power.

Nvidia states that this new GPU will offer 4x the graphics performance of Intel’s integrated graphics solutions, which should make this GPU more than capable of playing older PC games and most popular eSports titles.

It has already been confirmed that Acer, ASUS, Clevo, HP and MSI plans on creating notebooks with this new GPU, with plans to ship these new products globally by June.
