Rumour has it that a new GTX 1060 SKU is on the way, one which will ship with Nvidia’s GP-104 silicon and GDDR5X memory. This makes this model of the GTX 1060 more akin to the GTX 1080, utilising a larger CPU core than other GTX 1060 variants.

Videocardz has reported that Gigabyte is working on a GP-104/GDDR5X-based GTX 1060, though at this time it remains unclear whether or not these new SKUs will make it into the western market.

Right now, the GTX 1060 remains extremely popular within Internet Gaming Cafes, particularly in the Chinese market, making it seem likely that this SKU will be exclusive to China.

These rumours come at a time where AMD is reportedly preparing a new mid-range graphics card called the RX 590, a likely competitor to the GTX 1060, making the prospect of a new GTX 1060 SKU all the more interesting.
