Cryptocurrency mining has become increasingly popular over the past few months, especially with relatively new currencies like Ethereum. Today most Etherium miners are using modern desktop GPUs as compute units to create/mine this currency, causing GPUs to simply fly off the shelves in certain regions.

This has caused a GPU shortage, especially in the US, creating the need for increased GPU production but also a change in marketing strategy. Today, it looks like many GPU manufacturers are planning to release new mining-oriented versions of existing graphics hardware, which are said to be both cheaper and more power efficient than their gaming/desktop counterparts.
Now GPU designs have leaked for some ASUS and MSI mining GPU designs, all of which come without display connectors and are said to be between 10-30% more efficient than standard Nvidia GTX GPUs for mining.

These new GPU designs are rumoured to have a 3-month warranty, with Videocardz stating that these GPUs will start shipping o consumers within the next month.

Looking at the ASUS design above we can clearly see that this GPU is based off their GTX 1060 Expedition, which is one of the more affordable designs in ASUS’ GTX 1060 lineup. As you can see there are no display outputs on this GPU, which means that this GPU is certainly not for gaming, eliminating most of this GPU’s potential resale value.

Below we can also see two MSI mining GPU designs, the first of which seems to be based on the GTX 1060 TOC and the second of which seems to be based on their GTX 1070/1080 AERO, which is again two of the companies cheaper GPU designs. We can see no clear display outputs on these new GPU designs, which is a trait that is likely to be common with these new mining-oriented GPUs.
