Samsung announces their new 10nm Exynos 8895 SoC

 
Samsung has announced their new 10nm FinFET Exynos 8895 SoC, which is said to offer 27% more performance and 40% less power than their previous generation 14nm chipsets. 
 
This new SoC will use four of Samsung’s new second generation ARM CPU cores for enhanced performance and four of ARM’s Cortex A53 cores to handle low-power tasks. Samsung has also placed an ARM Mali-G71 GPU, which is said to offer “next level 3D Graphics performance”. 
 
Samsung has also stated that this new SoC is able to handle the recording or 4K 120fps video as well as video processing capabilities that are capable of upscaling images for immersive VR experiences, with this new SoC containing dedicated processing units for fingerprint recognition.

This is a highly impressive SoC from Samsung, combining cutting-edge SoC design with their low-power 10nm manufacturing process to produce something that surpasses their previous designs in every possible way. 

The Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC is one of the first mass-produced products to be created using Samsung’s 10nm process technology, leaving many to wonder when we can expect to see next-generation process technologies be used in future CPUs and GPUs. 

It must be remembered that modern processing technologies are not ready for high-power/performance products right out of the gate, with the process either suffering from yield issues with large dies or power issues when used with high wattage products. The Samsung Exynos 8895 is produced using Samsung’s own 10nm LPE (Low Power Early), manufacturing process, with the company planning to create a more refined 10nm LPP (Low Power Plus) process for use with a wider range of products at higher yields at a later date.
