Intel Kaby Lake-X benchmarks leak

Benchmarks for Intel’s upcoming Kaby Lake-X 7740K have been leaked, delivering clock speeds of 4.3GHz Base and 4.5GHz boost at stock on Gigabyte’s X299 Gaming 3.

This new platform will be using Intel’s LGA 2066 socket, which is rumoured to support both Skylake-E and Kaby Lake-X series CPUs. Intel’s new X299 HEDT platform will replace Intel’s X99 platform, offering support for quad-channel memory and additional PCIe lanes than the companies desktop grade LGA 1151 (Z170 and Z270) motherboards.

Intel’s Kaby Lake-X series CPUs will offer similar features to their Kaby Lake-S counterparts, though the CPU’s integrated graphics processor will be disabled. Kaby Lake-X CPUs are also rumoured to be limited to 16 PCIe lanes on the CPU.

The benchmarks below closely match previously leaked Intel i7 7740K benchmarks from an ASRock X299 motherboard, further legitimising these leaks.

With a TDP of Kaby lake-X CPUs are expected to be around 112W, offering higher clock speeds than their desktop LGA 1151 counterparts with the potential to offer more overclocking headroom. This CPU will likely be the entry level CPU for the LGA 2066 platform, giving its users the opportunity to upgrade to a CPU with more cores and PCIe lanes at a later date.
