Two of ASUS’ upcoming X299 motherboard have been pictured, the TUF series X299 Mark 2 and the Prime X299-A, both of which support 4-channel memory with up to 8 DIMMS and dual M.2 slots.

Both of these motherboards use a similar PCB design, coming with dual M.2 slots. One of these slots is parallel with the motherboard while the other is completely vertical, with one slot under the 24-pin power connection and the other under the chipset heatsink. In the case of the Prime X299-A, one of these M.2 slots is covered with a heatsink that is attached to the board’s chipset heatsink.

These two motherboards will also come with three 16x PCIe 3.0 slots, though the Prime will have 3 reinforced slots while the TUF has only two reinforces slots. On the storage side, the Prime X299-A is again technically superior with up to 8 SATA ports, while the TUF only has six.

The main differences between these two boards in terms of PCB design can be found in the audio section and the base of the motherboard, with the Prime coming with extra features like a post reader and an on/off switch. We can also see some very different onboard audio designs.

At this time the full specification and final pricing of these motherboards are unknown, though they are expected to be very pricey.
