MSI GTX670 OC Power Edition Review
3D Mark
Published: 6th August 2012 | Source: MSI | Price: £320 |

3D Mark Vantage
Out of the blocks the MSI shows a good turn of performance with the stock card comfortably out-performing an overclocked reference one, and in the Extreme test our overclock is better than a stock GTX680 and close to the MSI GTX680 TF3.
3D Mark 11
Again the 'stock' MSI GTX670 outdoes a stock GTX680, and although our overclock is enough to handily best the reference GTX670, in 3D Mark 11 the extra architecture of the full GTX680 is enough to just shade the MSI.

May I ask, did you leave the fans on auto? - a lot of the owners of this card say that the Auto preset is pretty naff, and that setting up your own fan settings is better.

I think you shoulda bumped the price score up a bit fella, it's cheaper than most non reference 670's for that kind of performance :P Nice review

A good review, and one that I have been waiting for on here for a while now

My bad

----------------, there that's my quota of non-hyphenated words filled

However, you can set up custom fan profiles with the MSI, which should make it silent all the time

And Asus' support is not in high regard here in the UK, either.
I think it all comes down only to how quiet are the cards while idle, because when gaming I have my isolating headset anyway, so the noise doesn't trouble me. And if it's that bad, I might stick an aftermarket cooler on it. Might go with the EVGA after all. I don't like the memory chips on the back of the card on the MSI / Gigabyte ones.
As with the MSI, from the user reviews that i've read on other forums, it seems the load noise can be cured with some manual fan customisation. Fans on 45% still seem to keep the card arctic like :P
) but when I do I can comment on noise levels. Some people are saying it's very quiet below 60%, whereas others say that it starts getting audible over 45%. Either way, the card has huge overclocking potential so i don't really mind

I'll be able to tell you in a couple of days
From what I hear it's barely noticeable, and it only appears 'brown' if you shine bright light on it |

And if it is, I could always try and buy a backplate for it

EDIT: Just found out there aren't any backplates for it. yet.
I think I will add white LEDs in the build so I guess there is nothing for me to do but get another card.
Is there any other GTX 670 that can be overvolted?
max core o/c on stock volts = 1267mhz (so not a great clocker >.>)
max oc on +93mV offset = ~1377mhz in heaven 3.0.
I can run ~1402mhz in 3dmark11 up until about 70c at which point the core becomes unstable. (need waterblocks).
The twin frozr iv cooler suffers high temps when the card is overvolted and the card is not horizontal (I have an rv02). Something to do with heatpipes orientation. idk..
Mem overvoltage is great too because you get a nice performance increase from it on 600 series. My better lightning can run a +630mhz offset (~7268mhz effective) on stock volts and my slower one can be overvolted to match.
Any higher on the mem than +630 and my fps cuts in half for some reason, not sure if it's a 'ln2 bios' issue on the card or nvidia drivers nerfing it. The image on screen is completely free of artifacts..
Anyway, I think it'd be pretty beneficial, yes.
Also anyone know what scans exchange procedure and policy is like?
Never had any issues with the 580 I was using before.

It doesn't seem to be linked to the fan, or any kind of fan noise, I tried manually turning up the fan and it doesn't make the sound. In games when the gpu is under load it just makes a horrible buzzing sound even if I turn the fan speed down. Can hear the buzzing through my 550d case with all the vents closed lol

Damn uni work has me frazzled.
As for coil whine, I get very minor coil whine which can't be heard with the door on. The only time I hear loud audible coil whine (more of a screech) is during the credits screen of heaven 3.0 @ 5000+fps.
Is the coil whine occurring at a high fps? You can limit your fps with afterburner (aside from using adaptive vsync).

Wow, so somehow i managed to read 'is it noticeable?' as asking whether overvolting was noticeable.

Its happening when the gpu is under load, been on gw2 tonight and is buzzing all the time except when the card is on like 10% load. Tried it in other games and the same thing happens. I don't really get a screeching sound just a constant buzzing.

Today we're taking a close look at the latest factory overclocked card from MSI, the GTX670 OC Power Edition.
