AMD HD6790 Overclock 3D Mark Review

Unigine Heaven 0xAA

The Unigine Heaven Benchmark has been a happy hunting ground for AMD with their recent cards, but not today. Once again it's such a cut-down card that even with zero Anti-Aliasing the HD6790 just runs out of puff.

8xAA

Understandably with Anti-Aliasing turned on things don't improve. We're not expecting miracles from a value card, but even compared to the slightly more expensive HD6850 it's a long way behind.

Today we take a look at the latest budget card from AMD. Is it the perfect balance of price and performance or a cut too far?

Ahh... AMD's GTX 550 Ti. The meh cards that you're better off not cheaping out for.

It's better than I expected it to be but IMHO it's pretty pointless when for a bit more you can get a 6850 and when non reference versions come out which will cost a bit more it will be even more pointless.

I don't understand why Nvidia and AMD released the 550 and 6790 surely the time and effort would have been better spent making improved versions of the 6850 and 460.

Why do ati feel the need to flood the low/mid range with cards?

Architectualy speaking isn't this another 5 series card?

It's pretty much a overclocked 5770 with a different architecture, lower power consumption, less heat and noise.

a better 5770, why not? its better then the 550ti that means price drops for the 550 ti

but aa 460 or 6850 is too close to its price :/

Technically yes but performance, price wise and where it fits into the market no.
