Scythe Kama Thermo
Conclusion
Published: 1st April 2007 | Source: Scythe | Price: |
The Scythe Kama Thermo is certainly a competent little performer and passed the OC3D Lab tests with flying colours. Now I know many of you will probably be saying that it only reads one temperature and it's usefulness is extremely restricted, as there are a multitude of temeprature reading rheobus' out there. And yes, this doesn't even control fans!
But considering that you get the Kama Thermo for a measly US$9.80 , it's not a lot of cash to outlay. Despite the restrictive application of the Kama Thermo it may appeal to the modder or watercooling enthusiast, but an option of a black or silver casing would be nice. I was actually contemplating inserting the thermal probe into the top of my 120.3 radiator and sealing it to monitor the water temperature at any given time.
Because the Scythe Kama Thermo does such a good job at temperature reporting and comes with a sexy blue LCD screen, I have decided to award it the 'Recommended' award.
Pro's
+ Accurate temperature readings
+ Price
+ Small and uninvasive
+ Provides both battery and 4-pin molex power
+ Nice and bright backlight
Con's
- Restrictive application
- Only monitors one temperature
- Black or silver casing would be nice too.
OC3D Forum would like to thank Scythe Europe for providing the Kama Thermo for today's review

Used to love goofing around with these things, pushing them to see if the ranges were true. (physics >.<)
I`d like to see it`s sensor in a block of ice, with mercury thermo, to see if it`ll hold up.
.. and also see what happens when it goes past it`s ceiling into 100 deg water, also alongside a mercury thermo.
Seems to me tho, the price is below the similar looking diy kits u can get from Maplins. Plus of course, u don`t have to make it.

Yeah, tis true. It didn't pretend to be anything it wasn't, plain and simple
Scythe is also a hardcore producer from Perth, Australia who I met the other night. Damn I thought you guys were talking about him lolol
Yes, we also had several medieval farmers and fans of the grim reaper making a similar mistake but this IS a computer enthusiast forum. 99% of the threads are solely to do with computers

lol stop spamming my review thread. Thanks Ham

Rofl trust dav0s to lower the tone.
I know it's a little late, but I was wondering if both the temperature sensor and the backlight can work with only the 4 pin power, without the battery. Or does the battery have to be installed and have 4 pin power for the backlight and display. I bought one of these, and tried to operate it without the battery and just the 4 pin power and it didn't work. Just the backlight lit up. Thanks.
As far as I know the battery is for backup purposes only. So with power coming from the 4-pin molex it should still work...lemme check for you and report back.
