Creative Sound Blaster Roar Pro Bluetooth Speaker Review

Creative Sound Blaster Roar Pro Review

Conclusion

If you’ve found yourself wanting a portable speaker then there is no doubt that you’ve probably tried a few in a shop, or even tested out friends ones. Normally you have a choice of two types. There are those that are small and thus portable, or there are those that actually put out a decent level of sound.

The Creative Roar Pro is certainly compact. Just about small enough to fit in a large jacket pocket, but at the very least easily capable of slipping into a bag. The build quality is fantastic. It might weigh a shade over a kilo but it feels like it could survive absolutely anything you throw at it. There is no wobbling and zero flex. Perfect if you want to use it at a party or somewhere where other people might not look after it quite as much as you’d like. It isn’t all about the robustness though, as it equally looks beautiful which is perfect if you want to use it to boost the audio volume and quality of your television, Playstation 4 or computer. It’s small enough to hide away anywhere, yet classy enough that you can put it on display as the centrepiece of your entertainment area.

Small size might be useful, but normally when dealing with speakers if you have something that has compact dimensions then the sound quality suffers. Whether it is incapable of handling high volumes or merely overly tinny/bassy. The Creative Roar Pro laughs in the face of such limitations.

Nothing you’ve experienced will prepare you for how fantastic it sounds given it’s miniature stature. It’s capable of being really freaking loud. Easily enough to fill a decent sized room. So often with small speakers we’re hitting ten on the volume and, like Nigel Tufnel, looking for the 11. The Roar Pro unquestionably deserves the Roar moniker. It’s not volume at the expense of all else either. The audio profile is supremely balanced giving punchy bass, soaring highs and a full fat midrange that constantly had us checking to see Creative hadn’t secretly moved a much larger set of speakers into our offices. It’s barely believable how rich the audio is and a testament to the excellent design that you aren’t required to sit in front of it to reap the full benefit. Even if you’re behind the Roar Pro it still sounds fabulous. The Roar button on the top works like a charm too. Creative say that it helps boost the low range frequencies so that you don’t have to compromise your bass when you’re listening at low volume, and it definitely does the job. When running near the stops there is enough amplitude to drive the speakers properly and so it’s not completely necessary, but as you drop the volume down until it’s barely a whisper and then engage the Roar button the sound has exactly the same profile as it did, just quieter.

With a raft of connection options, impeccable build quality and sound that annihilates expectations about both volume and balanced frequencies, the Creative Sound Blaster Roar Pro is everything you’ve ever wanted from a small form speaker and wins our OC3D Gold Award.
