Creative Outlier Bluetooth Headset Review

Introduction

Creative might be more famous for their soundcards than their audio equipment, but as we’ve recently seen with the T50 Wireless speakers and the EMU X7 bookshelf speakers, their output devices are just as good as their soundcards.

Headsets have come a long way in a fairly short amount of time, but with so many media devices available to us we’ve found most of us own a wide selection of headsets for various tasks. One for online gaming, one for music indoors, one for going out and about and maybe one as a hands-free kit. It’s the downside of technical advancements occurring at a rapid pace.

Creative have seen this broad spectrum of uses and designed a headset which seeks to be all things to all people. Just as comfortable if you’re watching TV as it is talking on Skype and relaxing in the bath. Is it truly possible to deliver everything? Let’s find out.

Technical Specifications

Two things stand out from the specifications are the sheer range of connectivity options and the low weight. The Outlier supports regular 3.5mm jack input, but also has A2DP Bluetooth capabilities that support NFC for simple pairing as well as having a slot for MicroSD cards, freeing you from carrying anything other than the headphones themselves. That low weight has to be mentioned as well. 93 grammes is below anything that isn’t ear buds, and without a cable to get caught up in your clothing/flap in the breeze they feel even lighter than that.
