China’s YMTC becomes the world’s 3rd largest NAND producer
Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) grows to become the 3rd largest producer of NAND
The global SSD market has changed a lot in 2026. Today, Enterprise SSDs account for 48% of global NAND shipments, nearly double the 26% they accounted for the year before. All major NAND producers are working to produce as many bits of memory as possible. YMTC, Yangtze Memory Technologies, China’s largest NAND producer, has grown to become the world’s 3rd largest NAND producer with a market share of 14%.
The global NAND market is much more competitive than the global DRAM market. There are many more major players. The DRAM market is dominated by the three major players, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. In contrast, the NAND market also has major players like Sandisk, Kioxia, and YMTC. Solidigm also exists, though it is wholly owned by SK Hynix. Solidigm is Intel’s former NAND/SSD buisness, which SK Hynix acquired in 2021.
According to CounterPoint Research, YMTC now accounts for 14% of NAND shipments, narrowly beating Kioxia. This places it behind Samsung and SK Hynix, which account for 25% and 22% of shipments, respectively. Note that SK Hynix’s full percentage accounts for both SK Hynix (13%) and Solidigm (9%). Sandisk, Micron, and Kioxia account for 11%, 13% and 14% of the NAND market, respectively.

YMTC’s market share is rising, but its revenues remain behind its competitors
While YMTC is in 3rd place when it comes to NAND shipments, it’s 5th when it comes to revenue. This is because YMTC’s products remain primarily focused on consumers. YMTC’s NAND isn’t being used much for premium enterprise SSDs for datacenters, lowering its revenues compared to competing NAND companies.
Over the next few quarters, YMTC plans to shift into making more enterprise SSDs, hoping to grow its revenues and secure its position as one of the top global NAND producers by revenue. Later this year, enterprise SSDs are expected to account for over 50% of NAND demand, making it a large growth opportunity for SSD/NAND makers.
