AMD’s FSR 4.1 upscaler now runs on Intel ARC XMX units
Intel’s ARC B580 can now run AMD FSR 4.1, including its new 4.1.2 Lite model
The OptiScaler modding community has achieved something impressive: they got AMD’s FSR 4.1 upscaler running on Intel ARC graphics cards. Better still, it isn’t running on raw GPU Compute; it’s running on Intel’s ARC XMX units (Intel’s ARC AI Accelerators).
With AMD’s new FSR 4.1.2 Lite upscaler variant, FSR 4.1 can run just as fast as XeSS on Intel graphics cards. Early users have also reported notably higher levels of image quality than Intel’s XeSS, making it a superior upscaling solution.
Note that this mod only enables FSR 4.1 on Intel GPUs when using OptiScaler. FSR 4/4.1 cannot run on non-AMD hardware officially. Also, this new community-made version of FSR 4 hasn’t been widely tested, so compatibility across all games isn’t guaranteed. Still, it shows that AMD’s upscaling models can run on other GPU makers’ AI accelerators. In theory, AMD could make FSR Upscaling GPU-agnostic, like FSR 1, 2, and 3 before it. That said, AMD is unlikely to make this change anytime soon.

Given XeSS’ lower adoption rate compared with FSR and DLSS, Optiscaler has become a vital solution for Intel GPU users. It lets Intel GPU users enjoy high-quality upscaling in games that lack official XeSS support. With FSR upscaling support on Intel XMX units, Intel GPU users now have a viable alternative to XeSS. If nothing else, this should give Intel a reason to continue improving XeSS.
