Tyan has added two new motherboards to its lineup of boards supporting the AMD Opteron 4100 series processors. Both motherboards are dual socket ones and have been designed using the SR5690 and SP5100 chipsets respectively.
The parts have been named S8225WAGM4NRF and S8225AGM4NRF, with little difference between the two. The only point of distinction is the LSI 2008 SAS controller integrated into the S8225WAGM4NRF, which equips it with a pair of 6Gbps mini-SAS connectors. These make a good addition to the six SATA 3GBps ports already provided by Tyan.
All remaining specifications for the boards are identical and include EATX form factor, dual C32 sockets with eight DIMM slots that accommodate a maximum of 128GB of RDIMM. There are also four PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, and one each of PCIe x8, PCIe x4 and a regular PCI slot. Both boards support 4-way GPUGPU configurations, have a built-in graphics card from Aspeed, and have the capability to delivery 1600x1200 pixels at 60Hz through a D-Sub 15-pin.
The chip from Aspeed is a AST2050 chip, which also gives the boards a number of advanced server management features. Tyan has also equipped the boards with one Intel 8257EB and two Intel 82574L controllers linked to four Gigabit Ethernet ports.
Tyan is recommending that the mainboards should be used with 2U system cases, though there are no such restrictions. “The S8225 workstation motherboard enables price sensitive customers to experience GPU computing performance,” Tyan’s Director of Product Marketing, Kevin Hart said. “The AMD Opteron 4100 series processors provide improved power efficiency at a lower cost.”
Both models are already available with Tyan distributors worldwide, though the price tags they carry have not been announced.
