Radeon HD 4870 X2 stripped nekkid Page: 1 RV770 based Radeon HD 4870 X2 stripped naked
I'm sure that by now you've all seen what AMD's Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 cards are capable of, but I can feel you wanting more. So what about an HD 4870 X2 (RV770) dual-GPU version then? Do we have your attention now? In the very recent past, rumours have hinted at the HD 4870 X2's arrival sometime towards the end of Q3 this year.
Fortunately, the lads at Chiphell have a nice treat
for us with an early preview of the much anticipated card. Furthermore, it's as naked as a dogs danglies which makes the experience all the better.
Scanning over the slick black PCB, we see the two 55nm RV770 GPUs and a PLX PCI-E 2.0 bridge chip sitting in between. 16 Qimonda GDDR5 chips can be spotted on both sides, totalling 1GB of video memory. You can also see that the card requires both 8 and 6-pin PCI-E power sources.
From the few early performance runs spotted around the web, it's been hinted that the card will provide at least 15% more performance over running two seperate Radeon HD 4870 cards in Crossfire.
Ok who wants one? :D
