OCZ announce details of new SandForce equipped Solid State Drives
 
OCZ Technology Group have released information about their next generation of mainstream and enterprise SSD solutions. These will be based upon the SandForce SSD Processors family and be the pinnacle of storage options available to both the IT and everyday consumer.
 
Various configurations will be available with OCZ using versions of the SandForce SF-1500 and the SandForce SF-1200 processors combines with both multi-level cell and single-level cell NAND flash memory to provide best in class storage supplying reliability, energy efficiency, endurance and exceptional performance. The SandForce line will come with 3Gb/s SATA and 6Gb/s SAS in capacities ranging from 50GB to 400GB.

The SandForce SF-1200 is designed for the mainstream consumer, implementing DuraWrite technology that extends the endurance of SSDs by utilising Intelligent Block Management and Wear Levelling technologies. It also implements DuraClass which improves the performance by up to 50%, as measured by the SYSmark Benchmark. With up to 260MB/s read and write speed using 128k blocks, and scoring over 35000 in the PCMark Vantage HDD test suite, yet only consuming 550mW at load and 50mW at idle, this is the perfect blend of performance and energy efficiency.
 
The SandForce SF-1500, designed for the Enterprise markets, supplies all of the above features but increases the Mean Time Before Failure from 2 million hours with the SF-1200, to 10 million hours in the SF-1500.
 
Full product announcements will be made in the weeks leading up to the 2010 International CES Show.
 
If the consumer product is priced correctly this could be a genuine leap forward in SSD technology for the home market.
