OCZ Announce new 1.8 Inch SSDs
Aimed at ultra thin laptops, Netbooks, Nettops and Tablet PC's, OCZ have launched two lines of 1.8” SSDs.
The 1.8" Vertex 2 offers the same performance as the 2.5 inch edition. With a SandForce controller, the 1.8” Vertex 2 SSD offers 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS and up to 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write speeds. The drive is available in 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB capacities.
At the more mainstream end of the market, the 1.8” Onyx is available in 32GB and 64GB capacities. The Onyx is based on an Indilinx controller with claimed speeds of up to 145MB/s read and 120MB/s write. The drives have 64MB of cache, and boast only one watt of power consumption even during intensive computing.
Both of OCZ’s 1.8” SSDs feature an alloy casing, SATA 3Gb/s interface and TRIM support.
