According to our online source, Nvidia is getting its highly anticipated 8800 Ultra ready to do battle with ATI's R600 come the end of May. The card is rumoured at this point, to retail for around the US$1000 mark.

The source has suggested that there may be two reasons as to why Nvidia has decided to drag out the 8800 Ultra:

1) NVIDIA just wants to show that they are technically more superior by launching something faster than the 8800GTX and ATi R600 just in time for R600 launch; or 2) NVIDIA has already conceded defeat before official benchmarks gets out to the net. To counter they have to lanuch another model to counter R600.

Which do you consider to be the most plausable scenario of the two?
