Taiwanese Tier 1 motherboard manufacturers MicroStar International (MSI) have today released the P45-based P45-8D motherboard which is affectionately known as the 'Memory Lover'. The P45-8D features 8 DIMM's to cater for both DDR2 and DDR3 memory support, in an effort to save the end-user some 'folding stuff' when upgrading.
The new MSI P45-8D Memory Lover motherboard is powered by the latest Intel® P45 Express chipset and supports the Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme / Quad and other multi-core processors with an FSB up to 1600MHz. The eight memory slots can expand to 16GB by using four (4 x 4GB) DDR2 memory or 8GB by using four (4 x 2GB) DDR3 memory. The P45-8D Memory Lover is also equipped with PCI Express 2.0 x16 graphics card slot, which allows up to twice the bandwidth of current PCI Express slot. The MSI P45-8D uses a 'Memory Identifier' or digital switch to provide compatibility and performance between DDR2 and DDR3 memory.
