MSI has finally readied its HD 6870 card and as expected, it has equipped the GPU with its proprietary Twin Frozr II technology. The MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II has been made available in two versions – a regular one and a factory overclocked one. The cards have been obviously dubbed at MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II and MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II/OC.
In terms of features, there is not much to choose between the two versions – both cards will carry the same 1GB of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit interface as the original AMD reference card. MSI has equipped both cards with its Military Class components and the highly acclaimed Twin Frozr II cooler. MSI’s Twin Frozr II cooling is marked by the two 80mm fans, five SuperPipe heatpipes and the extra large heatsink – a combination that delivers extraordinary cooling. When compared to the reference card, Twin Frozr II keeps the MSI R6870 as much as 19 degree C cooler and also 12.8dB quieter.
For the overclocking enthusiasts, both cards will feature MSI’s exclusive Afterburner utility, which has been specifically designed with an overvoltage function of overclocking ease. And talking of overclocking, MSI has listed the regular R6870 Twin Frozr II with a core clock at 900MHz, while the OC version has been listed with a core clock at 920MHz.
So far, the cards have only been listed on the MSI website; there is no mention of their pricing or availability with retailers.
