Following the release of the AMD Radeon HD 6000 series cards couple of weeks back, manufacturers are eager to come out with their own overclocked models. Yesterday it was Vertex3D and today it is the turn of Micro-Star International (MSI). Techpowerup has reported that the OEM partner is ready to go to market with its Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone OC graphics card and these are definitely interesting.
For starters, the card derives its name from the specially designed cooling apparatus that MSI has loaded on to the reference card. The Cyclone GPU cooler boasts of a heatsink that has aluminum fins projecting outward from it in a spiral. 8mm heatpipes link two additional arrays of aluminum fins to either side of the GPU and also to the base palate. The overall effect is quite futuristic and keeps the GPU running at a steady 65 degrees Celsius.
While MSI has not officially released any details of the new card, Techpowerup seems to have taken it through a few tests, which show that the core clock has been hiked up to 1,000MHz while the memory has been overclocked to 1,200MHz. This means the card has been factory overclocked and is ready for enthusiasts to take on a ride.
Power for the graphics card comes through a single PCI Express power connector. For output, the Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone OC has been supplied with one HDMI 1.4a port, a Displayport 1.2, and two DVI ports.
While the specs have been reported on in details by the tech portal, the MSI HD 6850 Cyclone OC Edition is still some days away from hitting the market. So pricing and availability can only be known once the official announcement comes along.
