Logitech Innovates With Solar Keyboard K750 Page: 1

Computer peripherals’ manufacturer Logitech has come up with trumps… it has launched a wireless Solar Keyboard K750 that runs on light power. Though the name suggests it needs sunlight to work, the K750 is capable of drawing power from almost any light to keep running smoothly.

Input devices such as keyboards and mice have not seen much change since wireless devices were introduced several years back. Logitech’s innovation comes as a ray of bright light in an otherwise dull peripherals market. The ultra-thin keyboard is all of 1/3 inch thick. Yet it features keys that are easy on the fingers and comfortable to type on.

Logitech has used the Incurve design to make the keyboard keys extra comfy for users. For connectivity, the keyboard comes fitted with a 2.4GHz wireless transceiver which easily and quickly connects with the Unifying Receiver that is common for all Logitech peripherals. This means that if you also buy other Logitech wireless devices, you can connect all of them to your computer without any additional USB port requirement.

While these are all good features, the steal of the show is of course the power supply for the keyboard. For those wondering how much light exposure the keyboard would need to charge up its batteries, there is little to worry about. The power panel on the keyboard is capable of drawing power from almost any light source – even your computer monitor will do.

Logitech is also in the process of releasing a special app for the keyboard later this month, which will allow users to gauge the intensity of light hitting the keyboard. The digital meter on their computer screen will let them judge whether the light is intense enough to charge their keyboard. Once fully charged, the internal batteries on the keyboard will remain charged for up to three months, so you can use the keyboard regardless of darkness or light.

Talking about the Solar Keyboard K750, Logitech product marketing vice president Denis Pavillard said, “The keyboard is still the best input device for typing emails and IMs, updating your Facebook page or posting responses to your favorite blogs — and the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is the next big innovation in keyboard technology. The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard is powered by light but can work in total darkness for up to three months. Plus, with its PVC-free construction and fully recyclable packaging, it’s designed to minimize its footprint.”

Ready to be shipped out to retailers worldwide this month, the keyboard is expected to sell for $79.99.
