Intel pulls 'Trim' Firmware update for killing drives under Windows 7
Well, it’s only been a couple of days since I posted about Intel’s new SSD toolbox and firmware update for it’s 34nm X25-M SSD’s, and they’ve already pulled the update due to reports that it’s been bricking peoples drives under Windows 7.
There are plenty of reports of the problem here
on Intel’s forums. The update itself promised up to a 40% increase in sequential write speeds on their 160GB drives, however I’m sure that most of us would rather have a working SSD than an expensive 160GB paperweight.
In an official statement about the issues, Intel have said:
Yes, we have been contacted by users with issues with the firmware upgrade for our 34nm SSD’s and we are investigating. We take all sightings and issues seriously and are working toward resolution. We have temporarily taken down the firmware link while we investigate.
This doesn’t bode well for the reputation of Intel’s X25-M drives. Hopefully they will be able to resolve the issues soon.
