Nettops CPUNew Intel Dual core Atom

Although the Atom CPU has been in existence for a couple of months now, Intel have just launched a dual core version, the Atom 330. Fabricated using a 45nm process, the new chip is touted to be the ideal solution for low cost systems. Clocked at 1.6GHz, with 1MB of L2 cache, the Atom 330 features an amazingly low TDP of just 8 watts. Intel say that the Atom 330 is specifically designed for 'nettops', which are affordable desktops purpose-built primarily for web surfing, email, and basic Internet usage.

The Atom 330 will support upto DDR2-667 memory, and will be available as an integrated package from Intel. The CPU has been validated with Intel's 945GC Express chipset, featuring built-in Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and Intel® High Definition Audio. This new chip could be a welcome option for those looking to build a PC on a budget.
