It appears that Intel's 45nm manufacturing process is very much alive and healthy. According to the source article, Intel have working samples of the Penryn processors, and in a short period of time have already booted 4 operating systems (Windows Vista, XP, Linux and Apple Mac OS-X). Further, Intel was quoted as saying that their 45 nm manufacturing and future product designs are looking healthy so far and plan to begin manufacturing production in the second half of the year ramping to three 300mm factories in 2008. All three facilities are expected to be fully production-ready for 300mm wafers on 45nm nodes by 2008.

But, does this mean that AMD will yet again be left behind once Intel move to their 45nm process? AMD has already apparently claimed that they expect to be producing 45nm nodes 18 months after they moved to 65nm. It will certainly be interesting to see if AMD can accomplish the task, and shave off Intel's lead in manufacturing.
