Channel 4 Shows On Youtube
Officially confirmed today, a landmark 3 year contract between Channel 4 and Youtube, which will see popular shows such as Skins and Peep Show on the video sharing website soon after initial broadcast. This is the first time Youtube will have allowed full length content since the Google takeover, something it has been trying to do for a long time now.
Since the take over three years ago, Google have been trying to make money back from the world's most popular video sharing website, removing all non-authorised content and replacing it with sponsored content from shows such as X-Factor and Saturday Night Live, although none of this has ever been full episodes.
Andy Duncan, Channel 4's Chief Executive explained that "Making our programmes directly accessible to YouTube's 20 million UK users will financially benefit both Channel 4 and our independent production partners and help bolster our investment in quality British content,"
The deal will not start until 2010, although it will include an archive of episdoes as well as current content. The deal isn't exclusive either, so the channel's on demand service - 4OD, will remain.
