ATi Release another Linux Driver -- Catalyst 7.11 Page: 1

This New Driver is dubbed Catalyst 7.11 -- taking its nomenclature from the system in place for ATi's Windows drivers (7 = Year, 11 = Month).

This change in naming structure was not just to make the release numbers more  logical , but also to reflect that the Linux drivers are now as Functional as their windows equivilents.

This is based on the codebase of last months stellar 8.43.2 release so AIGLX support is now as standard as well as Windows Level Performance (as Expressed in the Phronix Quake Wars Comparision where Ubuntu Outperformed Vista)

The most noteworthy change in the Catalyst 7.11 driver release is the Linux 2.6.23 kernel support. The Linux 2.6.23 kernel was released last month but it didn't make it into last month's development schedule. It has also been reported that this release will work with the Linux 2.6.24 kernel.

The new RV-670 based graphics cards, the ATI Radeon HD 3850 and Radeon HD 3870, should also be supported by today's driver release. More information on the Radeon HD 3800 series is available in this news post.
