ASUS Launches MAXIMUM II GENE micro-ATX
ASUS today announced its MAXIMUS II GENE micro-ATX, which is based on Intel’s P45 chipset. The board follows the company’s earlier ROG Rampage II GENE m-ATX offering, which was designed for the Intel X58 motherboard.
The ROG Rampage II GENE brought all the features of full-sized models to a micro-ATX, and the new model is shaped along the same lines. The ROG-inspired P45 board features two PCIe x16 slots (x8 in dual-card mode) with CrossFireX support, 7 SATA, 1 eSATA, 12 USB 2.0 ports, 2 FireWire 1394a ports, and 4 DIMM slots, which support DDR2 memory clocked at more than 1,300MHz speeds.
The board also has support for SupremeFX X-Fi audio. The combination is a very special, feature packed m-ATX. With so much hardware packed onto such a small board, the MAXIMUS II is expected to be priced at a princely £150, though ASUS is still to make an official price announcement.
