ASUS Crafts Passively Cooled E35M1-M Pro Mainboard for Brazos Page: 1

ASUS today added to its lineup of Zacate powered motherboards by announcing the release of its E35M1-M Pro mainboard. Designed keeping the AMD Brazos CPUs in mind the new mainboard is a mainstream one that is ideal for HTPC application.

ASUS has again gone with the Zacate E-350 APU and the Hudson M1 chipset for the E35M1-M Pro board. As AMD’s fastest Fusion chip with a core clock at 1.6GHz and a 500MHz graphics clock, the E350 APU has already caught the fancy of most board-makers. The E35M1-M Pro from ASUS also latches on to the APUs impressive specifications, though using a completely passive design.

ASUS has gone with a full length heatsink with the E35M1-M Pro motherboard; so there is ample cooling available for both the APU and the chipset. While the earlier E35MI-I Deluxe motherboard from ASUS also has the same design, what sets the E35M1-M Pro apart is that this board is in a mini-ATX form factor. So it boasts of many more slots and connectors compared to the E35MI-I Deluxe.

So the E35M1-M Pro boasts of a PCI Express 2.0 x16 (x4 electronically) slot, a PCIe x1 slot, two regular PCI slots, five SATA 6.0 Gb/s connectors and slots for dual channel DDR3 memory. All of these are on the front. At the back, the board has another eSATA 6 Gb/s port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, optical SPDIF and analog sound in 8-channel surround, a FireWire port, and outputs for VGA, DVI and HDMI video.

Considering the full DirectX 11 support available on all AMD APUs, with complete compatibility for hardware acceleration for 1080p content, this makes the board a great choice for all of the latest high definition displays.

Enthusiasts will no doubt look at overclocking options and ASUS has not disappointed in this quarter either. There is FSB tuning from 80MHz up to 300MHz available in 1MHz increments. Overclocking protection has been ensured through the inclusion of ASUS C.P.R. (CPU Parameter Recall), while the Turbo Key II and TurboV smart overclocking tools make tweaking the AMD chips absolutely pleasurable.

The specifications are no doubt impressive, let’s hope the time to availability and pricing are just as good.
