Acer is gearing up to release a new series of ultra-slim notebooks based on Intel’s Calpella platform in the second quarter of 2010. According to reports, the new series has been dubbed the Calpella Slim series.
The new notebook line will feature 13-, 14- and 15-inch models of which, the smallest one will be manufactured by Wistron. Quanta Computer will manufacture the two bigger models. This is expected to give both manufacturers significant month-on-month growth in their notebook shipments.
All notebooks of the Calpella Slim series will be less than one-inch thick at their thinnest point. Down the line, Acer has plans of turning its Calpella Slim notebooks into its major product line. By switching over to mainstream CPUs from CULV processors in its ultra-slim notebooks, Acer hopes to get the best of both worlds – top performance with higher portability.
