65nm PS3 Reports False Page: 1
Apparantly, the earlier report of a 65nm Cell processor in the new 40GB PS3 was nothing more than an assumption touted as fact. However, there is a grain of truth to it. The new PS3 does have a lower 135W power consumption, compared to the 200W of the original PS3. This drop in power consumption, however, is due to a number of revisions rather than a 65nm chip.

The most significant is the cutting of backwards-compatibility, allowing the omission of the Emotion Engine+Graphics Synthesizer chips and memory. In addition to this, Sony has cut the number of USB ports from four down to two, as well as removed the hardware to support a media card reader.
