Move Aside Air, the ASUS Eee PC Seashell is Here

The Eee PC Seashell is ultra-portable and ultra-slimApple’s MacBook Air is in for some competition – ASUS has launched its ultra-slim, ultra-light Eee PC 10088HA. According to a report by Register Hardware, the netbook is now available in Taiwan and ASUS will be re-launching it in the UK early next week.

Dubbed Seashell, the stylish 10in netbook will come in a range of colours including white, black, blue, pink, “Sapphire Blue” and “Ruby Red”. It measures a skinny 18mm to 26mm top to bottom and has other dimensions of 262mm x 178mm. At just 1.1kg, the 1088HA is perhaps the lightest netbook around that boasts of an Intel 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor.

The system also has 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and 10/100Mb/s Ethernet. On the ports side, the netbook features two USB 2.0 ports, analogue audio and VGA ports, all of which are well concealed behind the contoured flaps on the sides. For memory and storage, the Eee 1088HA has 1GB of DDR3 RAM and a 160GB 5,400rpm SATA hard drive respectively.

The on-board battery reportedly gives the system up to six hours of life, which is good for an ultra-portable netbook. With the exception of the as yet undisclosed graphics card, the 1088HA has an enviable configuration. Expected to be priced around the £380 mark, the ASUS Eee 1088HA Seashell currently seems to have little competition, though Acer’s soon to be launched inch-thick Aspire One D250 might present it with some shortly.
