Acer Makes a Hat-trick of Launches

Acer is on a roll; it has launched three systems in a single day. These include the world’s first nettop featuring NVIDIA’s ION chipset, a series of ultra-thin Timeline notebooks, and the Acer Aspire Z5600 All-in-One.

Let’s take each launch one by one...

The AspireRevo mini desktop is the first nettop to be combine NVIDIA’s ION chipset with an Intel Atom processor. NVIDIA’s ION IGP has been designed specifically for the Atom and the combination is expected to deliver considerably better graphics performance than other Atom based systems.

Acer claims that the AspireRevo’s graphics performance is 10x times faster than other small desktops. While the system has been officially announced, details about its specifications, availability and pricing are still sketchy.

Next in line was the Acer Aspire Timeline series of ultra-thin notebooks. Designed to achieve “a delicate equilibrium between computer lightness and battery life”, the new notebooks reportedly deliver more than eight hours of battery life from a single charge.

The 24-29mm thick notebooks are available with a choice of Intel’s ULV processors including the dual-core 1.4GHz SU9400 and the single-core 1.4GHz SU3500. These are combined with Intel’s GS45 chipset, integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics and up to 4GB of DDR3 memory.

Acer has supplied a 320GB hard drive as standard, with optional upgrade to a larger hard drive or an 80GB SSD. A multi-touch trackpad, Wi-Fi and WiMAX connectivity, a 5-in-1 card reader, HDMI out, and Windows Vista Home Premium complete the configuration. The slim notebooks are available with a choice of 13.1in, 14,1in and 15.1in LED 1,366 x 768 displays. Prices are expected to start at $699 but availability is still to be confirmed.

The third and final launch of the day was the Acer Aspire Z5600 All-in-One (AIO), which has reportedly been “engineered to maximise the full promise of the next operating system from Microsoft called Windows 7.”

The smart system features a 24in 1080p multi-touch display, a wired keyboard and mouse. According to Acer, the Z5600 will feature the latest generation of Intel processors combined with up to 2TB of hard disk space, an integrated TV tuner and a Blu-ray drive.

The system definitely sounds like a mean machine but Acer has not come forth with details about the Z5600’s pricing or availability.

Yup, exactly the way I do it with FF. Sometimes it's fine, others it will drag the hyperlink across although it isn't visible at first (blue in stead of black cursor).

I've started using IE because of this error as it's a pita doing a full page, saving, clicking an image and finding all the images are linked to the last pic you uploaded :(.

Another couple of updates....

- If you accidentally click back in the browser or try to close the browser window, the editor will warn you that content has not been saved and give you the option to save it.

- I'm also working on an autosave feature that will save the latest version of your work to the server every 1 minute. It will save to a different database instead of overwriting your actual work, allowing us to go back to any previous version of your content.

Yeah me too :(

This morning was the last straw tho - I was on the train at 6am, spent 45mins writing a page of a review. Made a feckup, and instead of clicking undo in the editor I clicked back in the browser. Everything gone.

Jim, seems to be working well, and the question box when navigating away has indeed saved me a few times now :)

I've noticed a gap forming at the top of the page rather than at the end now, do you know why this is? Or am I just being clumbsy?

Jim and I were discussing this earlier and it appears to be bug caused by removing the bottom spaces of the page. For some reason it now adds spaces at the top. I'm sure Jim will sort this out with his next update.:p

Yeah I've had that too. I'm not quite sure whats going on but am looking into it.

I *think* it may happen if you try to remove the single blank line it adds to the end of the page.

well it's better than adding it to the end, as I didn't realise there was a little extra blue space at the end of the page, whereas now it's obvious when there is a gap...

Jim, My spell checker also appears to have stopped working.. It gives the wrong corrections and on the final correction I get "not in dictionary" or something wierd.
