Acer Announces First ION 2 Netbook

Acer have announced the release of the Aspire One 532G, the first netbook to make use of Nvidia's ION 2 graphics solution. The use of this solution gives the 532G Hi-Def playback capabilities as well as superior general graphics performance.
The 532G is built around Intel's Pine Trail platform, utilizing the Atom N450 processor and also including integrated GMA3150 graphics for low power usage. Thus, the netbook also includes Nvidia's new Optimus switchable graphics technology, having the ION 2 GPU kick in only when needed.
The 532G will be around an inch thick and weigh in at about one kilogram. Other features include a promise of up to 10 hours of battery life, a 10.1" HD LED backlit screen, integrated Wi-Fi, and optional 3G support.
Nvidia has yet to officially announce the ION 2 discrete graphics solution, though rumor has it that it is based upon the G310 GPU. If true, this puts it at a clock speed of 589MHz with 16 CUDA cores clocked at 1402MHz and 512MB DDR2 500MHz RAM.
The Aspire One 532G is expected to hit the market at the end of this quarter in Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red and Pearl Silver varieties. Pricing is unknown at this time.
