The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has always been a prime time for company's to make announcements.  Yesterday at this year's convention, the USB Implementer's Forum (USB-IF) took this opportunity to announce the first 17 consumer products to receive SuperSpeed USB 3.0 certification.  This certification allows manufacturers to display the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 logo on their products packaging, proving they perform up to the designed specifications.

Among the certified products (for full list see below) are motherboards from ASUS and GigaByte, notebooks from HP and Fujitsu, and hard drives from Western Digital, as well as several expansion cards and controllers from various manufacturers.

"SuperSpeed USB is an incredible advancement of the USB technology that consumers know and love, and we're excited to witness this broad industry support for SuperSpeed USB technology," stated Jeff Ravencraft, president and chairman, USB-IF. "The hard work of companies creating certified SuperSpeed USB products and devices is a clear indication of intense interest in, and momentum behind SuperSpeed USB."

Amusingly enough, ASUS and Gigabyte have already proclaimed themselves to have gotten the one world's first certified motherboard.  Delving past the corporate PR semantics, I suppose this could be considered to be true provided you say ASUS have the first X58 board and Gigabyte the first P55 board.  Both companies expect to see more of their boards to receive certification in the coming weeks.
