Sandisk in talks to sell to Western Digital

Sandisk, one of the world’s leading flash providers is said to be in talks to sell itself to Western Digital, potentially combining two of the largest storage providers in the world. A deal could be made within a week, though right now it is still possible for a deal of this size to fall though.

Right now neither company has commented on the merger, but an inside source form Bloomberg has revealed that Western Digital is discussion a price of between $80 and $90 per share of Sandisk.

Erin Lyons, an analyst at CreditSights Inc., said in an interview.

“Right now in tech land everyone is trying to figure out who to merge with,”

“The question is going to be how they fund it. If it is all cash, where do ratings go? Given the size, you’d assume they’d pay some kind of premium on that.”

A merger between these two companies opens up a lot of possibilities for both companies when moving into the future, given Western Digital’s reputation in the hard drive market and Sandisk’s memory/flash chip production.
