Blu-Ray In Possible Jeopardy
Last month, Columbia University Professor Emerita and Special Research Scientist Gertrude Neumark Rothschild filed a patent claim against a total of 30 companies. Last week, the ITC decided to take up an investigation into this claim.
The products at issue in this investigation are short-wavelength (e.g., blue, violet) LEDs and laser diodes that are used in products such as hand-held mobile devices, instrument panels, billboards, traffic lights, HD DVD players (e.g., Blu-ray disc players), and data storage devices.
With this claim, Rothschild is requesting that cease and desist orders be issued to the companies in question.
Considering the big players and important products involved, it's unlikely Rothschild will see her request fulfilled should she win the case. Instead, I'm sure she could expect a rather large paycheck in the mail.
