Active Media Aviator Series

Active Media USB 3.0 External SSDActive Media, a manufacturer of solid state drives and usb memory sticks have announced their Aviator 312 series of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external SSDs. USB 3.0 is theoretically 10 times faster than USB 2.0, although any devices we've seen so far are yet to stretch those limits. However, the 312 external SSDs take advantage of the massive bandwidth, delivering unprecedented transfer speeds of up to 160MB/s write and 240MB/s read in an extremely compact mobile package. Measuring just less than 3 inches long and only 0.2 inches thin, the A312 is smaller than a credit card and is designed to fit in a pocket. Active Media claim that they can save a 25GB full-length HD movie in about two minutes, meaning a take that used to take an hour will only take seconds with the A312.

The drives include a carry pouch and USB 3.0 Micro-B cable, although it is fully backwards compatable with USB 1.1 and 2.0 and doesn't require any additional power cables. Available in 16, 32 and 64GB capacities, prices or availability aren't yet known, but I guess it won't be cheap.
