VLC 1.0.0 Release Candidate Makes an Appearance
VLC media player is one of the few open source media players capable of playing almost any file type imaginable straight out of the box. With an official 1.0.0 release looming over us, the VLC 1.0.0 RC1 has been made available for those wanting to get a look in before everyone else.
Here are some of the key features in the 1.0.0 RC1:
* Instantaneous pausing
* On-the-fly recording for all medias
* Timeshift for most medias
* New Blu-Ray Linear PCM decoder
* Global Hotkeys on Windows and Linux
* Controllable by the Media Keys on modern Apple keyboards (OS X only)
* Several new and improved decoders, demuxers, encoders, and other codec-related goodies
More details can be found in the  VLC Change Log
The Release Candidate is currently available for Windows and Linux users only, with a Mac OS X version expected soon.
