Sony to introduce a 40GB model of the PS3

Rumours abound that Sony may be about to cut the price of the 80GB PS3 which is surprising considering that the opposition has been offering consoles for very much less. Further, according to the source article Sony is not only going to discount the 80GB PS3 by US$100 to US$499, but also introduce an entry level 40GB model that will land just US$50 above Microsoft' 20GB Xbox 360.

Sony knows that this holiday season will be even more crucial than last year’s launch window, as it will be the time to convince more than just PlayStation faithful to buy into their new generation. According to an Ars Technica source, Sony will not only drop the 80GB machine down $100 to $499, but it will also introduce a new entry-level 40GB offering that will come in at another $100 less at $399 – Just $50 more than Microsoft’s 20GB Xbox 360.

Sony may also further sweeten the deal by bundling in Spiderman 3 on Blu-Ray disk.

For consumers wanting to game on the cheap, Sony realises that its PlayStation 2 is still a stunningly strong seller. With even stronger value PS3 bundles, to cheaper PS2, and newly redesigned PSP, Sony is gunning hard for a strong fall and winter.

Lo lads

Well after my announcement today that we were looking for news team member/s I had two expressions of interest:

* Toxcity
* v a d e R'

Toxcity said he was keen and that he would like to become a contributor, as did v a d e R'. Now I have absolutely no problem with Toxcity although I will get him to write a short mock article for me, however v a d e R' motivation seemed entirely built upon the fact that there were now incentives available. Which tbh really ed me off.

Does anyone think v a d e R' should be given another chance and does anyone have any problems with Tox coming onboard?

Penny for your thoughts

Jim
To be frank, there's only three things I want from the news team:

- Prompt posting of the latest news with as much being direct from manufacturers.
- High quality posts with good grammar and plenty of pics/media.
- To obey PV

As long as we get those, I'm not bothered if they are in it for the money, the fame or the free bl0wjobs.

Just remind vader that the incentives only apply to news posts that meet OC3D's quality standards and are posted on the day of release. Additionally payment is only released on PV's say-so. No thumbsup from PV, no casheroonie.
