Microsoft is working on a Windows 10 “Game Mode”

Update – Microsoft has released a statement saying that they have “nothing to share at this time” regarding a Windows 10 Game mode.

We already know that Windows 10’s Creators update will bring with it several new gaming features which include updates to the Windows 10 Store, streaming and a new version of Microsoft’s Windows Display Driver model.

It has now been discovered that Microsoft is working on a Windows 10 gaming mode, with dll files relating to Microsoft’s “Game Mode” being discovered by WalkingCat in Windows 10’s leaked build 14997.

This new mode is expected to minimise Windows 10’s resource usage when running a game, allowing games to run faster and smoother than on older version of Windows 10. While this feature is not functional in this build, it is expected to arrive in Window 10’s Creators update, which is expected to arrive in Spring 2017.

Right now it is unknown if this new “Game Mode” will function with all games or if it is limited to games from Microsoft’s Windows 10 Store. If this new mode delivers additional performance on the platform it will be a huge gain for Microsoft, likely ensuring that even more gamers will move to the new OS.
