Google Enables Gmail Phone Calling

So far, Google's Gmail chat has featured the very basics of a typical chat program: instant messaging, voice chat, and video chat. Now Google is looking to change that. The newest feature added is the ability to make actual phone calls, putting Google Talk into Skype territory.
This new feature allows users to make not only calls in the US and Canada (which will be free at least through the rest of the year), but also international calls for as low as two cents a minute (for a full rates listing, head here). Simply click the "Call Phone" button at the top of your buddy list.
(Note: you will need to have the voice/video chat plugin installed)
Google is rolling out the feature over the next few days, so don't worry if you don't see it yet. In the meantime, you can amuse yourself with their brief animated advertisement video:
