Facebook Dislike button coming ‘soon’

 

After many years of member requests Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has announced that Facebook has been working on a “Dislike” button. 

The social network’s new Dislike button will likely be placed beside the website’s iconic like button and will finally allow users to express their emotions in more than one way.

Below is a what Mark Zuckerberg has said regarding Facebook’s Dislike button;

 

“People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years, and probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it,”

“What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment,” 

“We need to figure out the right way to do it so it ends up being a force for good, not a force for bad,”

“Everyone feels like they can just push the Like button, and that’s an important way to sympathize or empathize with someone,” “But there are times when you may want the simplicity of a one-click response but a “like” doesn’t feel appropriate.”

    

The idea of a Dislike button is by no means new, but it being implemented into Facebook will have a very large affect on the companies which use Facebook for marketing and will likely have a dramatic affect on how a lot of content on Facebook is distributed. 

Many people fear that a Like and Dislike button will turn Facebook into a Reddit-like system, where posts are down and up-voted, though the affects of this change will likely remain unclear for some time to come. Mark Zuckerberg says that the new Dislike button will be a a way to express empathy, though many critics suspect it will likely be used to express pure negativity.

Facebook say that the Dislike button will be tested and become available “soon”, which isn’t exactly much information to go on at this time.
