Apple iPhone Coming To The UK

Apple revealed today that the UK release date for the iPhone will be November 9th and that O2 will be the sole wireless carrier.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with O2 to offer our revolutionary iPhone to UK customers”, said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “US iPhone customer satisfaction is off the charts, and we can’t wait to let UK customers get their hands on it and learn what they think of it”. “Our strategy at O2 is to bring our customers the best products and experiences”, said Matthew Key, CEO, O2 UK. “The iPhone is a breakthrough that is changing the way people use their mobiles forever, and we’re thrilled to have it exclusively for O2 customers in the UK”.

The 8GB iPhone will be available through Apple’s retail and online stores, O2 and The Carphone Warehouse’s retail and online stores, with a price of £269 (inc VAT). O2 will be providing 3 plans* for the iPhone, ranging from £35 to £55 which all include unlimited anytime, anywhere mobile data usage and, in a market first, free unlimited use of the UK’s largest single public Wi-Fi network, covering over 7,500 cafes, restaurants, airport lounges, pubs and other locations across the UK.

iPhone Plans

One thing to note is that according to bit-tech the iPhone did not get the predicted upgrade for 3G connectivity.

Steve Jobs commented on the non-availability of 3G saying, "The 3G chipsets are real power hogs. Handset battery life cuts power to two to three hours. Our phone has a talk time of eight hours and that's really important when you want to use your phone for internet and music."

Note: The iPhone will require a new 18-month contract with O2.

next we'll see intel buying Nvidia

theres no doubt that intel will be a force to be reckoned with, and tbh......i see Intel presiding over AMD/Ati.....ESPECIALLY if they decide to get havok software/hardware combo and mix it with their CPUs.....making them into a cpu/physics engine combo...
