Young-looking New Yorkers will have to show ID to buy violent video games if New York State Representative Keith Wright has his way. Wright has authored State Assembly Bill A00547 which would require anyone appearing to be under 30 years old to show identification to buy a violent or sexually-explicit game. It would also mandate adult only sections in video game stores.
The bill would affect retail sales and rentals of video games that glamorise commission of violent crimes, suicide, sodomy and other violent or sexual acts. Online sales would not be affected. The adult-only section of the store is described in section 2 of the bill which states that video games will be "stored and displayed... in a location designated for persons over the age of eighteen." It also states that the store must restrict access to that section.
