Apple issue recall worldwide for two pronged AC wall plugs that are up to 12 years old amid risks of them delivering electric shocks when damaged.

These wall adapters may have been sold at anytime between 2003 and 2015 with certain Mac or iOS devices, meaning that these potentially dangerous chargers may be being used by hundreds if not thousands of people currently.

Thankfully Apple says that these chargers will only administer a shock in very rare cases, with only 12 electric shock incidents having been reported over the past 12 years, making this recall purely a matter of precaution. Apple has made the below statement.

Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to exchange affected wall plug adapters with a new, redesigned adapter, free of charge,

We encourage customers to exchange any affected parts.

These adapters have been sold in Continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Argentina and Brazil, so Apple users in these regions are urged to check their chargers. Adapters with four or five characters or no characters on the inside slot should not be used and replaced. See the image below to see a charger that is and is not affected by this recall.

Other Apple wall plug adapters, which include those designed for Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, United Kingdom, and United States and Apple USB power adapters are not affected by this issue.

It is very disappointing to see an issue such as this be present in the market for 12 years, but it is great to see Apple take responsibility and issue a recall for this item. With only 12 issues being reported for this issue it it unlikely that you charger will present this issue, but those with this charger type should still be very careful and replace their charger if they are affected by this recall.
