802.11n ratified, finally.

WiFi 802.11n Ratified, no longer draftIt will come as no surprise to some that the 802.11n standard of WiFi has finally been ratified by the IEEE's standards board. Some 7 years after the initial work started on the succesor the 802.11a, b and g in 2002, although 802.11n devices have been around for the past few years, using a draft version of the specifcation. This meant that products would not become obsolete once the specification was finally approved, and this remains the case, the IEEE say that all devices that support WiFi 802.11n Draft will support the latest version too.

Chair of the IEEE Wireless LAN Working Group, Bruce Kraemer, said "This was an extraordinarily wide-ranging technical challenge that required the sustained effort and concentration of a terrific variety of participants. When we started in 2002, many of the technologies addressed in 802.11n were university research topics and had not been implemented. The performance improvements achieved via IEEE 802.11n stand to transform the WLAN user experience, and ratification of the amendment sets the stage for a new wave of application innovation and creation of new market opportunities."

Howdy everybody!

This coming weekend, I'm doing the 3 Peaks Challenge which is getting to the top of the tallest mountain in England (Scafell Pike), Wales (Snowdon) and Scotland (Ben Nevis).

Ben Nevis 1344 - Metres
Snowdon 1085 - Metres
Scafell Pike 987 - Metres

We are aiming to do all 3 of these in 24 hours including travelling time. Some people do this over 2 - 3 days or even a week so doing it in 1 day is quite tough. Need a bit of luck on your side with traffic and weather.

Aaaaaaanyway there are about 40 - 50 of us doing this in 3 teams made up of several groups. There are 5 of us that are in our lil group but we're all raising money towards the same goal.

The cause

To raise money for the 4aJ Foundation Clean Water Expedition to Nicaragua.

There will be 15 or so people making that trip to access and channel a fresh, permanent water supply to the village of Achuapa. Sadly I'm not making that journey :(

Basically this is me asking if anyone will sponsor me on the 3 Peaks Challenge and help raise money towards the ultimate goal of the trip to Nicaragua.

If you do sponsor, please leave a comment and that the end just put oc3d so I know it came from here :)

I know money is tight at the moment for a hell of a lot of people but any little donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated!

To sponsor and read a bit more about it click here

Many thanks to anyone who sponsors :worship::worship::worship:

This is soooo weird. Just the other night I was watching this crazy program about a couple who wanted to do the three peak challenge but at the top of each peak they wanted to 'make love'. They did it with 10mins to spare. :)

Did they bonk on each one?

That would be skills.

It's gonna be damn hard I hear.

Big thanks to both of you :)

:worship: Massively appreciated.

If anybody else has but hasn't posted, please let me know in here so I can say thanks. If only the first name has been put up on the donation site and no post here, I haven't a clue who it was :D

The bloke who set up the charity is only 26 or so and did so as he overcame cancer. Every couple of years he sets up something like this to help against cancer in some way, be it here in the UK or abroad.
