In order help new game developers as well as encourage PlayStation exclusivity, Sony has created a new program. At the GDC a few days ago, they announced the creation of what they call the Pub Fund. Pub being short for publishers, the Pub Fund is a program in which Sony will match the development budgets of self-published games on the PlayStation Network in return for release exclusivity.
"We're looking for a number of great games, and in return for exclusivity we'll match your development budget with guaranteed royalties," he said.
Sony stressed the fact that developers would not be selling out to Sony in this deal.
"You'll be the publisher, you'll own the IP and you'll control your product. This is assisting you to make your next step from developer to publisher."
The first game to go live on the PSN under this deal is Doublesix's "Burn Zombie Burn." Sony hopes to see their network to be populated by games developed by publishers taking advantage of this opportunity.
What do you think of Sony's attempt to encourage the growth of the gaming industry (and of course their network)?
