Sony Backtrack on "Fresh Start" Decision
It's certainly been a controversial week in the Sony offices. Last week, it was announced that certain Sony TZ laptops bought in the US, had a "Fresh Start" option, which involved getting rid of the rubbish clogging up the operating system, which manufacturers are so kind to include when you buy a computer from them.
All the trial software, games and useless Sony applications could be removed, freeing up hard drive space, and more importantly, not using vital resources to run them. Sounds fantastic doesn't it? Only one problem, Sony had to cheek to charge $50 to make your computer run how it should!
Well after a minor uproar from potential customers, anybody considering buying one of the TZ laptops starting at $1899.98 will be pleased to know that the charge has now been removed. The fact that Sony were willing to charge for this service in the first place is quite frankly ridiculous, but I suppose it is a minor acheivement that you can now obtain a laptop runing exactly how you like it.
I'm sure other enthusiasts will agree when I say I hope this becomes a standard option when buying any computer or laptop manufactured by one of the giants. Dell had a turnaround last year and started shipping PC's with almost no "crapware", but it is still common to have to uninstall trial programs and games from many computers made by the big names.
Currently Sony have only offered this on certain TZ model laptops, but it is expected to spread through their range soon.
